Typically requires a drill rig to drill a borehole into the underground water aquifer. Will require investigation on quality and quantity of the groundwater from local or regional Department of Natural Resources or similar.

Typically deep water is often located at a distance from where it is ideally needed, so pipelines and storage tanks are inevitably a requirement of this water source. It will also require a pump to get water to the surface, some form of control equipment and power source to run the pump.

Cost & Impact: A very reliable water system option offering long term solutions. It is recommended to have a wider impact on the deep groundwater project option as it has higher installation, maintenance and running costs requiring extensive prior community commitment.

Project Locations: India, Uganda and Malawi

Deep groundwater is generally drilled from underground aquifers 20 to 200 metres or deeper
